MARIANA'S HIGHLIGHTS:
Mariana has distinguished herself at Coffee Time News through her willingness to step outside her comfort zone and embrace the real-world side of journalism. Her first assignment took her to JazzAscona in Switzerland, where she surpassed all expectations by interviewing international jazz artists face-to-face and leaving the festival having not only conducted some great interviews, but also made new friends. Her work was so impressive that she later travelled to the inaugural edition of Jazz Peccioli in Italy, where she conducted solo interviews that demonstrated just how much she had grown as a student journalist. Whether approaching an artist, conducting an interview or adapting to the unexpected situations that come with working at a live music festival, Mariana has shown the confidence and flexibility to take on challenges far beyond the classroom.
She also brings a thoughtful approach to translation. Rather than simply settling for the first possible wording, Mariana enjoys comparing different interpretations and discussing how an artist's ideas can be expressed most naturally and accurately in Portuguese. Combined with her genuine enjoyment of interviewing and meeting people, this has made her a trusted member of the Coffee Time News team and an excellent representative of our student journalists abroad.

MARIANA'S FAVORITES / INTERESTS:
Mariana shares a love of reading with many of our student journalists, an interest that has helped make her an excellent translator. Her enthusiasm for English and French shines through in our staff meetings, where she enjoys exploring different ways of expressing ideas and helping us find just the right words. She is also a talented musician and singer, which gives her an additional connection to the artists we interview and helps her understand life from a musician's perspective.
Mariana's first solo interview was with Vanessa Collier at JazzAscona, and it was a home run. Her smile and positive energy matched Vanessa's perfectly and resulted in a wonderful interview.

Mariana met and interviewed Maurice Storrer and has continued to follow his career including getting an autographed copy of his release Foureign Language.
Mariana was in her element meeting members of the Swiss jazz group St. SBB-B, including Maurice Storrer and Isabella Bleisch.
Mariana interviewed Keith Lowe online and was so impressed by both the interview and his work that she acquired a signed copy of his solo release, The Other Half of Silence.
Mariana had the opportunity to interview Adonis Rose for a second time in Peccioli, Italy, and presented him with a customized Coffee Time News T-shirt celebrating our admiration for his work and his role in helping bring jazz festivals to life around the world.
